What Is On Near You, Tonight
A month of work on the question a fan actually asks. Funny.CEO now has a page for tonight — what is on near you, starting soon, with the night read in the room's own timezone so a late show does not disappear at midnight. Alongside it: landing pages for the kind of night you are looking for in the city you are in, a homepage that leads with real shows near you rather than an empty space, and a set of corrections to the places where a number on screen and the number behind it had drifted apart.
What's new
Tonight, Near You
One page that answers what is on near you right now. A night is named for the evening it began and runs until four in the morning, read in the venue's own timezone — so a half-past-midnight late show is still tonight, and a room three time zones away does not vanish from a list you are reading at eight. Every listing says where the ticket is actually sold, ours or elsewhere.
City Pages for the Night You Want
Open mics in Austin, showcases in Brooklyn. These pages exist only where there is real inventory standing behind them, so a page that promises a list always has one — and where we do not have the rooms yet, we do not publish a page pretending we do.
A Homepage That Leads With What Is On
The corners of the homepage now carry actual shows near the visitor, chosen by what is soonest rather than by two fixed day names that are often empty by evening. A sold-out show no longer occupies a slot a bookable one could use, and a long act's name is shown in full.
Sponsorship Commission That Matches the Page
What a venue pays on a sponsorship now depends on who brought the sponsor — nothing when the venue brought them, a stated rate when we did. The page and the money agree, and the wizard says which case you are in before you commit.
Show Night, On One Screen
The door and green-room view for the night itself is now reachable from the venue dashboard, and keeps working when the room's connection does not. Arrivals, the running order and the waitlist are in one place for everyone working the night.
Every Spend Has a History You Can Open
Funding Unit spends now appear in a statement you can read back, so a balance that went down can always be accounted for line by line.
Refinements
- Sharing your location on a comedian's page used to move the talent directory instead of the page you were reading. It now moves the one in front of you.
- A button could take 30 FU without doing the work it offered. It no longer charges for work it does not do.
- The venue workspace opened one of your rooms at random, and for an owner it opened none. It now opens the room you were last working in.
- A biography written by our team could be silently replaced the next time the comedian saved their own profile.
- Comedians had two public addresses; there is now one, and links to the old one are no longer published.
- Show pages, city pages and the sitemap now describe themselves accurately to search engines, and thin pages are kept out of the index rather than published and hoped for.
- The colour table in our design documentation had drifted from the colours actually used; the two are now checked against each other.
