Late Nite Catechism: Til Death Do Us Part

Late Nite Catechism: Til Death Do Us Part

The Venue

Located in the heart of Boston’s historic Theater District, Charles Playhouse Theater 2 is housed in a storied 1839 building designed by architect Asher Benjamin. Originally a church and later the city's first synagogue, the venue has lived many lives, including stints as a Prohibition-era speakeasy and a legendary jazz club. Today, this intimate lower-level space—often branded as "Lil Chuck"—preserves its rich heritage while serving as a vibrant cornerstone of the city's performing arts scene. The theater is most famous for hosting the comedy whodunnit *Shear Madness* for four decades. Now a dedicated hub for live performance, it showcases a mix of stand-up, improv from Improv Asylum, and unique theatrical shows. The room carries a prestigious legacy, having once hosted comedy icons such as Jay Leno, Robin Williams, George Carlin, and Steven Wright during its roots as a premier comedy cellar.
