John Crist Live!

Nestled in the historic Sherman Hill neighborhood of Des Moines, Hoyt Sherman Place offers a grand setting for live comedy. Originally built in 1877 as the manor of businessman Hoyt Sherman, the venue expanded in 1923 to include its stunning theater. Today, the space is celebrated for its majestic architecture, featuring intricate plasterwork and an elegant atmosphere that bridges the gap between a Victorian-era landmark and a premier performance space. As a top destination for national tours, the theater hosts a diverse range of entertainment, from world-class musicians to the biggest names in stand-up. Comedy fans have filled the hall for legendary performers such as Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Gaffigan, and Bill Burr, as well as modern favorites like Nate Bargatze and Chelsea Handler. Whether you are visiting for a marquee headliner or a celebrated humorist, Hoyt Sherman Place provides a sophisticated, warm backdrop for an unforgettable night of laughter.
