NOT THE RIGHT MOM - a full spectrum comedy

Located in the heart of Hampton’s historic Phoebus neighborhood, The American Theatre is a beautifully restored 1908 gem that originally served as a vaudeville house. As Virginia's first integrated theatre, this landmark venue offers an intimate atmosphere with fewer than 400 seats, ensuring every guest enjoys exceptional acoustics and a clear view. Its position on East Mellen Street places it at the center of a vibrant arts district, providing a professional yet warm setting for live entertainment. The theatre maintains an ambitious year-round schedule, hosting a diverse array of performances including stand-up comedy, cabaret, and classic film screenings. Comedy fans can enjoy high-caliber talent in a room that has hosted notable figures such as Margaret Cho and Bea Arthur. Whether you are attending a touring headliner or a special showcase, the venue's rich history and modern production quality make it a premier destination for comedy in the region.
